600-Acre "Peat Swamp Forest" In Middle of Sibu A Place to Destress


SIBU, Sat: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Zohari this afternoon launched the Sarawak World Wetland Day at the town's "green lung" consisting of 600 acres peat swamp forest at Bukit Lima.

Bukit Lima peat swamp forest, which used to be a forest reserve was gazetted as a nature reserve on 15 December 2011 under the National Parks and Nature Reserves Ordinance 1998 and the name was changed to Bukit Lima Nature Reserve.

The park which is a habitat for various spesies of birds and animals is a favourite haunt of joggers and entrance to the park is free.

The Chief Minister described the 600-acre of green as a place to destress for urban dwellers and appreciate nature.

Later, the Chief Minister also launched Sarawak Forest Corporation's new logo during the ceremony and later toured the park.
