YAB CHIEF MINISTER’S TEXT OF SPEECH AT
THE STATE VACCINATION PROGRAMME LAUNCHING
STADIUM PERPADUAN NEGERI
27TH FEBRUARI 2021 (10.30 A.M)
TESTIMONY
1. Seperti yang semua sedia maklum, saya telah menerima suntikan untuk dos pertama Vaksin Covid-19 (PFizer BioNTech) vaccine semalam di Klinik Kesihatan, Petra Jaya bersama Timbalan Ketua Menteri, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah dan Menteri Kerajaan Tempatan dan Perumahan, Profesor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
9. The vaccine will be sent to 54 designated locations state-wide where the vaccination will be administered.
10. The execution of this program is a very difficult exercise as it requires extensive planning, and a lot manpower and logistics given the big size of the state. But I am confident that our State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and his highly dedicated team will be able to implement it with success.
VACCINATION PROGRAMS ACROSS COUNTRIES & IMPACT
11. While implementing our own vaccination program we are also looking at the implementation of similar programs in other parts of the world.
12. As far as the Pfizer vaccine is concerned, we are given to understand that the vaccine has been cleared for use across North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and vaccination campaigns have begun in at least 99 countries, including Malaysia.
13. For the record, since yesterday more than 218 million doses of the vaccines had been administered across the 99 countries. Reports in the US says the vaccination had reduced the overall attack rate to 4.6 % from 9 % without the vaccination, over 300 days.
14. The results indicate that vaccination can have a substantial impact in mitigating Covid-19 outbreak, even with limited protection against infection.
15. However, continued compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions is essential to achieve this impact.
16. In the UK, new data by the Public Health England organisation shows that the first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine provides high level of protection against infection and symptomatic disease.
17. The vaccine is not a cure but a protection against potential infection that should help to break the chain of transmission of the corona virus.
CLOSING
18. I would like to reiterate that the state government will continue to do its utmost in protecting its people.
19. I must congratulate our SDMC and all frontliners for doing a splendid job. But the fight against the pandemic is everyone ‘s fight. Let us all unite in the battle.
LINDUNG DIRI. LINDUNG SEMUA.
